Brian Ebersole will return to the cage after a nine-month layoff. | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com
Ultimate Fighting Championship officials Sunday announced the booking. The bout will be part of a Sept. 5 card in Las Vegas which is topped by a UFC light heavyweight title showdown between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson.
Ebersole, 33, has been away from the cage since suffering a decision loss to Rick Story at UFC 167 last November. The Tiger Muay Thai “Bad Boy” has gone 4-2 since joining the UFC in 2011 but has now lost back-to-back outings against Story and James Head, a first in Ebersole’s 68-fight career.
Howard, 31, will also look to rebound from a loss after being outpointed by Ryan LaFlare in April. Prior to that setback, “Doomsday” began his second UFC run with a pair of decision wins against Uriah Hall and Siyar Bahadurzada.
