UFC 164: Henderson vs. Pettis 2 Live Gate and Attendance

The Ultimate Fighting Championship released the UFC 164: Henderson vs. Pettis attendance and gate figures on Saturday following the pay-per-view event.

The event drew 9,178 spectators at the HMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, garnering gate receipts totaling $907,116.

Milwaukee native Anthony Pettis dethroned Benson Henderson from the lightweight title in the event’s main attraction.

The match-up was a rematch from the 2010 WEC title fight where Pettis defeated then-champion Henderson by unanimous decision.

He was the last fighter to defeat Henderson heading into Saturday’s title fight and didn’t need five rounds to get the job done this time. Pettis forced Henderson to verbally tapout via an arm bar submission late in the opening round, capturing the UFC lightweight belt.

The fight card also featured the return of heavyweight Josh Barnett to the UFC in more than a decade.

Barnett became the youngest fighter to win the UFC heavyweight title by defeating Randy Couture in 2002.  Following the fight, he left the organization in controversy and competed in the Japanese-based Pride and Pancrase organizations.

On Saturday, he faced former titleholder Frank Mir in the co-main event.  Barnett pressed the action and brutalized Mir with strikes while in the clinch position.  Unleashing some dirty boxing, Barnett dropped Mir with a well-placed knee.  Mir collapsed to the canvas and the referee stepped in to stop the fight.

In other action, Chad Mendes solidified himself as the top contender in the featherweight division by becoming the first fighter to finish Clay Guida with strikes, while Ben Rothwell spoiled Brandon Vera’s return to the heavyweight division, winning by TKO in the third round.
