UFC 163 results and photos: Anthony Perosh KOs Vinny Magalhaes in 14 seconds

RIO DE JANEIRO – Talk about a measure of revenge for Anthony Perosh.

A little more than a year after Perosh was knocked out in seven seconds by Ryan Jimmo, he went into hostile territory in Brazil and knocked out Vinny Magalhaes in just 14 seconds.

The light heavyweight bout took place today at UFC 163 at Rio de Janeiro’s HSBC Arena. It aired on FX ahead of the pay-per-view main card.

Perosh landed a right hand in the first exchange that wobbled Magalhaes, and with Perosh already on the inside, he pushed the Brazilian to the canvas. And once there, Perosh’s game plan was simple – land right hand after right hand after right hand.

Referee Mario Yamasaki looked like he might jump in after six punches, but instead gave Magalhaes a chance to recover. But with four more right hands from the Australian, that chance would never come.

Yamasaki shut things down after 10 punches on the ground, 14 seconds into the fight. Perosh had been off for a year after a gruesome toe injury late in 2012. At 40, the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt was not as decorated as Magalhaes in the grappling department, but that didn’t matter.

“I asked for the fight – we were both coming off one loss, we’re both BJJ black belts,” Perosh said. “So what better way to fight than in Brazil. I wanted the fight, and everyone underestimated my BJJ. But today, I showed my standup.”

Perosh (14-7 MMA, 4-2 UFC) is back in the win column after the seven-second KO loss to Jimmo in July 2012. Magalhaes (10-7 MMA, 1-4 UFC) now has dropped back-to-back fights after an April loss to Phil Davis.
