LAS VEGAS – Mark Hunt‘s remarkable career turnaround hit a roadblock, and though resilient and tough to finish, he ultimately suffered a vicious third-round knockout loss to ex-heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos.

The bout was the pay-per-view co-headliner of UFC 160, which took place Saturday at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Dos Santos (16-2 MMA, 10-1 UFC), who continually hit Hunt (9-8 MMA, 4-2 UFC) with power shots, could never put down the PRIDE veteran for good until late in the fight. With the New Zealand native finally slowly doing and battered from the first 14 minutes of the fight, dos Santos connected on a fight-ending spinning kick and follow-up punch to win the fight and set up a likely rubber match with heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.
