He manages to get back to his feet when Elkins stands up to reposition, but Elkins double-legs him right back to the canvas. Riddle dives into Maguire’s guard and quickly backs out to stand over him again. Ref Yves Lavigne orders Maguire back to his feet and now it’s Maguire going after a single-leg. Riddle denies it and puts Maguire on the cage, again not mounting much offense in the clinch before backing off. Riddle shoots and Maguire grabs a guillotine, then tries to finish by pulling guard. Diabate follows him to the floor and works from side control, but Griggs is able to squirm back up. Not for long, however, as Diabate slams Griggs, who is absolutely pouring blood from his nose less than 90 seconds into the bout. Griggs uses the cage to inch back up and takes a knee to the face. He grabs Diabate’s head but can’t get anything going with the choke and surrenders his back again. Diabate won’t let go this time and sinks in the rear-naked choke, forcing Griggs to tap out at 2:24 of the first round. Round 1
Sakara swipes with long left hands to open the bout, but Cote finds his mark with a good right hand about 45 seconds in and then unloads. Sakara is injured, on the retreat as he eats a knee and more punches from Cote -- but just as suddenly, Sakara reverses the momentum as they work on the fence. He turns Cote around, lets go of the Thai plum and uses a pair of close-quarters elbows to put Cote down. Sakara tries to finish, pounding with hammerfists; the first few land on Cote’s shoulder blades, but the next eight or nine land square on the back of the Canadian’s head. Cote hits the deck, still clinging to Sakara’s leg, and referee Dan Miragliotta finally intervenes. Patrick Cote is awarded the win by disqualification at 1:26 of the first round. Round 1
The featherweights exchange leg kicks and Garza has a few deflected up top. It’s the shorter Hominick pressing forward on the lanky “Scarecrow” Garza, who backs the Canadian off with long punches and an inside leg kick. Hominick comes right back in, pushing Garza toward the fence, but Garza charges out with a knee and a high outside leg kick. The give-and-take continues as the men take turns pushing forward, Hominick trying to stick stiff punches and Garza working with knees and kicks. Crisp right straight from Hominick, and a one-two follow-up has Garza covering up momentarily. They go to the mat and Garza swings his long legs up, trapping Hominick’s right arm in an armbar. Hominick lifts him up and is able to extract the limb before coming back down in Garza’s open guard. Body shots from Hominick as he sits up, then gets pushed off by Garza’s legs. Hominick lands a nasty left hook to Garza’s liver and Garza wilts. Hominick tries to pound him out, but Garza gets up and blasts him with a right hand. Instead, Hominick puts his back on the mat with Garza in his closed guard. Garza scoots Hominick toward the fence, covering the Canadian’s mouth with his hand and landing the occasional hard left hand. They get to the edge of the cage and Garza postures up to throw some solid ground-and-pound, cutting Hominick open further. Hominick swings his hips for an armbar but Garza stands, pulls out and goes back into Hominick’s guard with about a minute to go. Short punches and lots of smothering from Garza gives way to hard, short elbows, and Hominick’s face is looking rough by the end of the period.

Hominick alternates between closed and butterfly guard, nearly pushing Garza away on a few occasions, but Garza is doing well to stay on top. It doesn’t stick but it’s enough to get dos Anjos to back off. Straight punches and a leaping knee from dos Anjos, then a grazing punch to the body. There’s not enough action for referee Philippe Chartier, who breaks them up just past the 2:00 mark. Lawlor goes after a double-leg and Carmont sprawls on the fence, then cranks Lawlor’s left arm in a kimura. Lawlor gives up the position to free his arm, steps out and then shoves Carmont back into the fence. Carmont doesn’t stay put this time and the middleweights go back to striking with a minute left.
