Eddie Wineland comes out strong in Round 1 against Urijah Faber at UFC 128

Round 1: Faber goes for the clinch in the opening seconds, but Wineland switches positions, pushing it against the cage. Faber shoots in and trips Wineland up for a moment, but it’s back in the clinch. Not much action against the cage, mostly posturing for position. Wineland is able to take Faber’s back and get a nice slam, but he lets him right back up again. Faber shoots in for a single leg, lifts Wineland up for a moment, but he scrambles free showing great balance. Wineland cracks Faber on the jaw with a perfectly timed straight right hand.

Round 2: Wineland looking to land a combination, while Faber throwing kicks at the former bantamweight champion. Faber slips under and gets a nice single leg trip takedown. Inside Wineland’s guard, Faber looks for big elbow strikes to his opponent’s jaw. Faber picks Wineland up and slams him back down. Wineland looks to scramble and almost gets free, but Faber is relentless and stays on top of him. Wineland seems content to play defense and try to lock Faber down and force a stand up. Faber keeping busy though and feeding Wineland a steady diet of elbows.

Round 3: With the fight likely at a round a piece, the final round should decide this one. Wineland keeping a steady pace with punches to the head and body. Faber shoots for a takedown, blocked by Wineland. Faber again pushes Wineland and looks to take the fight to the mat, but Wineland keeps it standing. Faber tags Wineland with a big punch as the two fighters stand toe to toe. Faber shoots again, and perseverance pays off cause he eventually gets Wineland down. Faber continues his offensive on the gorund with punches and elbows as the fight comes to a close.
