Top FC 1 – Original Results: Dongi Yang, Jong Man Kim and Seung Hwan Bang Score Comeback Wins

Top FC picThree Koreans made successful comebacks at Top FC 1 – Original in Seoul on Saturday night. UFC veteran Dongi Yang stopped Jae Young Kim with strikes in the second round of the main event middleweight match-up.

Yang was fighting for the first time since his unsuccessful UFC stint and was on the front foot right from the opening bell as Kim continually backed up, using lots of head movement and countering with the occasional low kick or punch.

The former UFC fighter looked firmly in control as he landed a head kick that seemed to stun Kim and also executed an early takedown.

In the second round, Yang was still stalking his opponent, who eventually got trapped in the corner of the ring and was subjected to a barrage of punches and kicks causing referee John McCarthy to step in and stop the fight.

With the win, Yang improved to 10-3, breaking a two-fight losing streak, while Kim dropped to 14-11-0-2 with his second successive loss. He dropped a split decision to Melvin Manhoef at Road FC 9 last September.

Also on the comeback trail was Seung Hwa Bang, who has been out of action since 2010, but showed that he is still among Korea’s top lightweights by beating the overmatched Joo Dong Hwan by stoppage due to strikes late in the second round.

The win was Bang’s first in three years and improved his record to 16-7 with exactly half of his wins coming by KO or TKO. Hwan dropped to 3-5 with one win and one loss to his name since returning to the sport in 2012 after a seven-year absence.

The third man making his comeback at Top FC 1 – Original was Jong Man Kim, who was last seen fighting for Martial Combat in 2010. The 35-year-old took his record to 23-11-3-1 by knocking out Seung Hwa Han in the second round. The touted Korean Top Team prospect dropped to 2-3 with the defeat.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was Haejung Yang, a Legend FC title contender who has been strongly linked with Bellator. He dropped a split decision to Doo Hwan Kim in a light heavyweight match-up.

The defeat spoiled a two-fight winning streak for Yang, who dropped to 9-5, while Kim improved to 4-1 after registering the most eye-catching victory of his career to date.
