Top-10 Flyweight Darrell Montague Makes Octagon Debut Against John Dodson at UFC 166

World-ranked flyweight Darrell Montague won’t be taking a warm-up fight in his first UFC appearance.

The Las Vegas-based promotion announced Saturday that the Tachi Palace Fights veteran will square off with John Dodson at UFC 166 on Oct. 19.

UFC 166 takes place at Toyota Center in Houston and is headlined by a heavyweight title clash between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos.

Montague enters the UFC on a four-fight winning streak, most recently submitting Jesse Miramontes with a first-round triangle choke on May 18. “The Mongoose” captured the Tachi Palace 125-pound strap with a five-round verdict over Ulysses Gomez in May 2011 but would relinquish the title to current UFC talent Ian McCall in his next outing at TPF 10. The Milennia MMA representative has finished 10 of his 13 career victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission.

Dodson came up short in his bid for flyweight gold in January, losing a unanimous decision to Demetrious Johnson at UFC on Fox 6. Dodson dropped the champion with a left hand in the first round and staggered him with another in the second, but “Mighty Mouse” gradually wore the Jackson’s MMA product down over the course of five rounds. The Jackson’s MMA product owns notable triumphs over John Moraga, T.J. Dillashaw and Jussier da Silva, to name a few.
