Titan FC 28 fills up with UFC veterans, including Herman, Brilz, Magalhaes

Titan Fighting Championship’s next card has started to fill up with a group of big-show veterans.

Titan FC 28 is set for April 25 and will have a main card on CBS Sports Network. The Kansas-based promotion has not yet announced a specific venue or city for the event, however.

A planned fight between UFC veteran lightweights George Sotiropolous and Mike Ricci didn’t materialize, but four other fights are set, the promotion recently confirmed.

Ricky Legere (18-4) will take on Todd Moore (16-5) at welterweight; Dave Herman (21-6) meets D.J. Linderman (15-7) in a heavyweight bout; Jason Brilz (21-5) is set to face Vinny Magalhaes (10-7); and Brock Jardine (9-3) fights Daniel Roberts (14-5).

Legere, a Strikeforce and Bellator veteran, will bring an eight-fight winning streak into his bout with Moore. Seven of those eight wins have come by stoppage for the Californian, who will have gone nearly four years since his most recent loss when he steps in the cage. Of his 18 career wins, 16 are finishes, with an equal amount of submissions and knockouts.

Moore is a WEC, Strikeforce and DREAM veteran who has won four of his past five fights. After returning from a layoff of nearly a year and a half, he went 2-0 in 2013 with a knockout of Charlie Ontiveros under the Legacy FC banner and a submission of Edwynn Jones this past November. His five losses are to UFC veterans John Alessio, Shane Roller, Brian Melancon and Jason High, plus the highly regarded Shinya Aoki.

Herman will be fighting for the first time since being released from the UFC on a four-fight skid. “Pee Wee” won his UFC debut in 2011 with a TKO of John Olva Einemo, but then was stopped in four straight against a murderer’s row of heavyweights: Stefan Struve, Roy Nelson, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Gabriel Gonzaga, arguably one of the toughest stretches of heavyweight opponents for anyone in UFC history.

Linderman has lost two straight and will be looking to get back on track, himself. The veteran of promotions like Bellator and Cage Warriors was knocked out by Anthony Johnson at World Series of Fighting’s first event in November 2012, starting a stretch of four losses in six fights. He’s 1-2 under the Legacy banner and will be looking to pull even.

Brilz has gone 3-0 since being cut by the UFC on a three-fight skid. Overall, he went 3-4 with the promotion, including a win over Tim Boetsch. Brilz, who will turn 39 in July, will get his stiffest test since leaving the UFC when he meets Magalhaes.

Magalhaes was let go by the UFC after a two-fight skid against Phil Davis and Anthony Perosh – the latter coming by way of a 14-second knockout at UFC 163 in his home country of Brazil this past August. Prior to the two UFC losses, the Season 8 runner-up on “The Ultimate Fighter” had a five-fight winning streak to get back to the UFC, and a submission of Igor Pokrajac in his return to the promotion at UFC 152.

Jardine is another fighter looking to return after being cut loose from the UFC. He lost two straight there to Rick Story in 2012 and Kenny Robertson a little more than a year ago at UFC 157. His other loss is to highly regarded UFC welterweight Tony Ferguson.

Roberts went 3-4 during his UFC tenure, including a three-fight streak. But losses to Claude Patrick, Rich Attonito and Charlie Brenneman sent him backing two years ago. Since then, he’s gone 2-1 with a pair of submissions.
