Strikeforce Medical Suspensions: Miesha Tate, ‘Jacare’ Souza, 7 More Placed On Shelf

Nine fighters were medically suspended following Strikeforce “Tate vs. Rousey” on Saturday night, including former champions Miesha Tate and Ronaldo Souza.

Tate and Souza both received indefinite suspensions, as did undercard competitors Roger Bowling and Conor Heun. Sherdog.com confirmed the news with Ohio Athletic Commission Executive Director Bernie Profato on Tuesday.

Headlined by Tate’s defense of her 135-pound championship against Olympic judo bronze medalist Ronda Rousey, the event took place at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Rousey finished Tate to take the title live on Showtime, applying a first-round armbar that injured Tate’s left elbow.

Meanwhile, Souza, Bowling and Heun were all placed on the shelf due to possible broken hands following their respective bouts against Bristol Marunde, Brandon Saling and Ryan Couture. All fighters who received indefinite suspensions must be cleared by a physician before returning to competition.

Aside from the indefinite suspensions, four fighters were shelved 30 days, including Sarah Kaufman (precautionary reasons), Alexis Davis (facial laceration), Pat Healy (head laceration) and Saling (precautionary reasons). Additionally, main card competitor Kazuo Misaki was suspended 45 days due to a facial laceration sustained in his hard-fought split decision victory over Paul Daley.
