The fight card for UFC 136 continues to develop at a rapid pace, as the promotion Saturday announced that a lightweight scrap between Jeremy Stephens and Anthony Pettis will go down at the Oct. 8 event.

Headlined by a lightweight title rubber match between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, UFC 136 will emanate from the Toyota Center in Houston. In the co-main event, the featherweight title will be up for grabs as Jose Aldo defends his belt against Kenny Florian.

Stephens, 25, has won four of his last five, with his lone loss coming to Melvin Guillard in a competitive UFC 119 scrap last September. The 12-time UFC veteran currently rides a two-fight winning streak, knocking out Marcus Davis in January before dismantling a game but overmatched Danny Downes at “The Ultimate Fighter 13” finale on June 4.

As World Extreme Cagefighting's final lightweight champion prior to the organization's merger with the UFC, Pettis showed dynamic striking and slick submissions en route to his title-winning performance at WEC 53 in December. However, after winning four-straight to close out his career in the little blue cage, “Showtime” suffered a setback in his UFC debut, falling by unanimous decision to Clay Guida last month.
