Road FC 16 is set for the South Korean city of Gumi on July 26 and will be headlined by a flyweight title fight with Nam Jin Jo and Song Min Jong competing for the inaugural 125-pound belt.
Jo (8-6) has won two straight fights and is coming off a career-defining win over Mikihito Yamagami at Road FC 14 when he dominated the Japanese veteran for three rounds to take a unanimous decision.
Jong (6-6) beat two tough opponents to reach the final of the recent Road FC 135-pound tournament where he was extremely unfortunate to find himself on the wrong end of a surprise split decision defeat to Kil Woo Lee.
He bounced back to beat UFC veteran Issei Tamura by first-round submission at Road FC 13 and, after being highly unlucky not to win the organization’s bantamweight belt, he will be desperate to make amends by claiming the 125-pound title.
Also on the card at the Park Chung-Hee Stadium will be a middleweight match-up that pits UFC veteran Riki Fukuda against Dong Sik Yoon, a decorated Judoka who has fought for both Pride and Dream.
Fukuda (20-7) will be looking for his second straight Road FC win after stopping Hee Seung Kim in the second round earlier this year. Yoon (6-7) has only fought once in the past five years, but the 41-year-old has notable wins over Tarec Saffiedine and Melvin Manhoef.
The third fight to have been announced by the promotion so far sees Carlson Gracie lightweight Bruno Miranda (6-1) return to Road FC to take on Lee Kwang-Hee (6-3-1), who will be competing in Korea for the first time in six years.
The entire card can be purchased for $9.99 from: www.ustream.tv/roadfc.
