Rashad Evans 'Nervous' About Weight Cut for UFC 205 | MMAWeekly.com

Former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans made his way to the UFC through The Ultimate Fighter reality series, winning the second season as a heavyweight. After the season’s finale, Evans promptly dropped down to the 205-pound weight class and made a run at the title.

“Suga” captured the light heavyweight crown at UFC 92, defeating Forrest Griffin by TKO in third round. In his first title defense, Evans was knocked out by Lyoto Machida. After the loss to Machida, Evans put together a four-fight winning streak and clawed his way back to a title fight against then champion Jon Jones. He was defeated by “Bones” at UFC 145 and never made it back to the summit of the 205-pound weight class.

Coming off back-to-back losses as a light heavyweight, Evans will make his middleweight debut at UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 12 against former training partner Tim Kennedy.

Rashad EvansThe move to middleweight could revitalize Evans’ career.  He’s been plagued by injuries and has only fought twice in the last three years.  After competing as a heavyweight and light heavyweight, Evans hopes to find a new home in the 185-pound weight class.

“After fighting at 205 pounds for a while, I just feel like I need something different, a change. Dropping down to middleweight is something to give me a new challenge,” Evans said during an appearance on UFC Tonight.

Evans has had tough weight cuts at 205 pounds and is admittedly “nervous” about making weight for his middleweight debut.  But Evans is only concerned because he hasn’t done it before and has made dietary changes to ensure that he’ll tip the scales on target.

“I’m definitely nervous about it,” Evans said about cutting weight for his 185-pound debut. “I’m excited about it, and I really have taken the weight cut seriously. I cut out sweets, and it’s hard for me to cut out sweets. ‘Suga’ got no sugar right now.

“I’m living a healthier lifestyle. I’m making sure that I’m really watching what I put in my body.  Come November, if I’m not living that clean life, I’m definitely going to be in trouble when it comes time to step on that scale.”
