Rafael dos Anjos 'surprised' by Bobby Green's claims, 'will not take it easy on him' again

Rafael dos Anjos (24-7 MMA, 13-5 UFC) just returned from a bit of a vacation in Singapore, but a few shocking Bobby Green (23-6 MMA, 4-1 UFC) comments made their way to the UFC lightweight champion, and he is anything but pleased.

“I am really very surprised that he said what he said,” dos Anjos told MMAjunkie. “He came to train with us before, and he was very supportive at the time, saying that he was a big fan of mine.”

Green was a guest earlier this month on BJPenn.com Radio, and “King” didn’t pull any punches when it came time to discuss his opinion on dos Anjos’ March win over Anthony Pettis.

“I think (dos Anjos) hurt (his) MCL or ACL two weeks before the fight,” Green recalled. “Who does that and still goes into the fight, fights their ass off, kicks and knees and punches and some more like, ‘No problem,’ you know? You’re not reading the writing on the walls.”

Green would go on to suggest dos Anjos used performance-enhancing drugs in preparation for the contest, comparing the new champ’s recent winning streak to noted steroid user Barry Bonds during his run Major League Baseball’s all-time homerun crown.

The champ was clean according to the official UFC 185 post-fight drug test, but Green just doesn’t seem convinced.

“Look at their bodies,” Green said. “This guy goes five rounds non-stop, takes every shot like it’s nothing, come on now.

“I sparred with him personally; I felt it. I was like, ‘There’s something here. I felt it. I was like, ‘OK, there’s something a little bit different here.’ I knew what was going to happen to Ant. I knew what was going to happen.”

The champ is disturbed by the accusations, and he insists things will be much different if Green ever wanders into his gym again.

“He showed up late to training,” dos Anjos remembered. “He lost all the rounds. He asked me to spar him and said he’s a big fan of mine.

“I took it easy on him. If I see him again, I will not take it easy on him. I sparred with him at 60 percent, and now he’s talking sh-t? Next time, I won’t be taking it easy on him.”
