The UFC’s first visit to Albuquerque now has a light heavyweight matchup added to the lineup.
Patrick Cummins (4-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) is set to take on Francimar Barroso (16-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) this June at UFC Fight Night 43. UFC officials announced the new bout on Friday afternoon.
UFC Fight Night 43 takes place at Tingley Coliseum, in Albuquerque, N.M. The event is headlined by a fight between former lightweight champion Benson Henderson and Rustam Khabilov and is expected to air on FOX Sports 1 and stream on UFC Fight Pass.
Cummins made a short-notice and much-heralded UFC debut in February against his onetime wrestling training partner, Daniel Cormier, in the co-main event of UFC 170 in Las Vegas. Despite plenty of heat before the fight, Cummins, a massive underdog, was shut down by Cormier in just 79 seconds. That was his first MMA loss after starting his career with four first-round stoppages, including a win for Strikeforce in his pro debut.
Barroso will be looking to get back on track, as well, after having a four-fight winning streak snapped by Hans Stringer at UFC Fight Night 38 in Brazil about two weeks ago. The split-decision setback was his first UFC loss after debuting with a decision win over Ednaldo Oliveira at UFC 163 this past August. All told, he has 14 of his 16 wins by stoppage.
With the new booking, UFC Fight Night 43 now includes:
