Junior dos Santos defended his spot as the number one contender in the UFC heavyweight division by battering Shane Carwin en route to a unanimous decision victory at UFC 131 recently in Vancouver.

He and 10 other UFC 131 fighters received mandatory nine-day rest orders as part of the Vancouver Athletic Commission’s medical suspensions following the event at Rogers Arena. Several other fighters, including Carwin, received lengthier suspensions, according to the list of medical suspensions that the Vancouver commission released on Tuesday.

Jason Young received the lengthiest potential suspension. He had a tender right foot and laceration on his left eyebrow. He is suspended for 180 days pending an x-ray of his foot. If the x-ray is negative, then he is only under a 45-day suspension with no contact for 30 days.

Carwin was suspended for 60 days with no contact for 45 days due to multiple facial lacerations and a nasal fracture. James Head was the only other fighter suspended for 60 days with no contact for 45 days due to a laceration on his nose.

Diego Nunes, who lost a decision to Kenny Florian, received a 45-day suspension with no contact for 30 days due to lacerations of the scalp and right eyebrow. Other fighters receiving 45-day suspensions with 30 days of no contact include: Yves Edwards for facial abrasions and being knocked out; Chris Weidman for a laceration on his left eyelid; Aaron Rosa for a left eyebrow laceration, abrasions on his face, and a sprained right elbow; and Darren Elkins for a right eyebrow laceration.

Several other fighters received 30-day suspensions with no contact for 21 days. Among those fighters are: Demian Maia for facial abrasions and a contusion on his left thigh, John-Olav Einemo for a minor head injury suffered in his TKO loss, Dave Herman for a tooth avulsion, Vagner Rocha for a contusion on his left thigh and a laceration on his right eyelid, and Mike Massenzio for a minor abrasion on his face.
