ONE Championship's Ana Julaton wants to challenge UFC champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk

It took Ana Julaton seven fights to win a title in professional boxing, and if all goes according to plan, she’ll add her first MMA title soon.

After transitioning to MMA, Julaton has done her best to be a quick study. Opportunities await.

“As I’m learning more and more about the sport, I’m understanding MMA is not boxing,” Julaton (2-1), who faces Irina Mazepa (1-0) at Friday’s “ONE Championship 35: Spirit of Champions” event, told MMAjunkie. “But I feel like I have something to bring to the table. I’d like to challenge a lot of people.”

Like UFC women’s strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk, for example. Although Julaton has never competed at 115 pounds, where Jedrzejczyk reigns, the current flyweight would like to test her skills against the best in the world.

“I’d love to see if I could challenger her in terms of my footwork, head movement, combinations,” said Julaton, whose bout streams as an online pay-per-view in North America from Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines. “Because it’s not like I don’t know how to read punches.”

Jedrzejczyk has dealt out plenty of those in her reign as champ. She beat Valerie Letourneau to the punch over five rounds this past month at UFC 193.

But Julaton also resides with ONE Championship, which has promoted her generously.

Julaton looks to build a winning streak after a decision to Ann Osman led to her first MMA loss. Mazepa holds a KO win over Osman in her professional debut, so a win on Friday gives her a leg up in MMA math.

“I’m just taking it one day at a time, and maybe move on to that direction and fight other champions,” Julaton said. “I’m not like (Mazepa’s) last opponent. I think we’re going to bring out a lot of fireworks.”
