A lightweight matchup between Northern Irish fighter Norman Parke (17-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Japanese import Kazuki Tokudome (12-3-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is the latest addition to UFC 162.
UFC officials today announced the new booking.
Featuring a UFC middleweight title fight between current champion Anderson Silva and undefeated contender Chris Weidman, UFC 162 takes place July 6 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.
Parke, winner of “The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes,” made his official UFC debut at this past December’s UFC on FX 6, where he earned a decision win over Colin Fletcher to claim the “TUF” tournament title. He was then expected to face Jon Tuck at this past weekend’s UFC on FOX 7 event, but an injury forced Tuck out one week before the fight, and the promotion was unable to secure a replacement opponent in time, leaving the bout a late scratch.
Meanwhile, Tokudome made his UFC debut at March’s UFC on FUEL TV 8 event, where he earned a unanimous-decision win over Cristiano Marcello. A Pancrase and Sengoku veteran, Tokudome is 7-1 in his past eight overall fights. The UFC 162 matchup marks just the second time the 26-year-old has fought outside of his native country.
With the addition to the card, UFC 162 now includes:
