Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena plays host to Cage Warriors 62 on Dec. 7

graham-boylan-1.jpgFor the first time in more than 10 years, Cage Warriors Fighting Championship will bring an event to Newcastle, England.

Cage Warriors 62 is set for Metro Radio Arena on Dec. 7, the promotion has announced. In 2003, Cage Warriors 5 took place in nearby South Shields. Cage Warriors 62 will be one of two events for the promotion in December, including the recently announced Cage Warriors 63, which takes place on New Year’s Even in Dublin, Ireland.

Tickets for the event are expected to be released soon. Metro Radio Arena can hold in the neighborhood of 11,000 fans.

Cage Warriors 62 will be the eighth of nine total shows in the United Kingdom for the promotion in 2013, a year that already has seen it travel to the United Arab Emirates, and just this past weekend, Chechnya. In October, Cage Warriors Fight Night 9 takes place in Bahrain, and Cage Warriors 61 heads to Dagestan in November.

“The Cage Warriors fans in the northeast have been begging me to bring the show up there for a long time, so we’re delighted to be doing that,” Cage Warriors CEO Graham Boylan stated. “Based on the number of requests I’ve had, we’ve obviously got a huge following in Newcastle and the surrounding area, so I think this has the potential to be our biggest event of the year.”

Although the promotion has not yet announced any fights for the card, Boylan made mention of fighters from the area that might make their way to the show.

“We’ve got some excellent local talent on our roster, such as Alex Enlund, Liam James, Shaj Haque and Chris Scott, and I’m sure they – along with the big national and international names we’ll bring in – will be keen to put on a show,” Boylan stated. “We’ve had successful arena shows in Cardiff and Liverpool already this year, but I’m really looking forward to this one. I think Cage Warriors in Newcastle will be something special.”

The company’s next event takes place in Cardiff, Wales, for Cage Warriors 59 on Sept. 14.
