Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal is ready to start the quest to get his crown back, and it begins on June 18 in Dallas.
The one-time Strikeforce light heavyweight champion tweeted late Friday evening that he expects to be on the card rumored for American Airlines Center.
Lawal hasn’t fought since August 2010 when he lost his title to current champion Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante by TKO stoppage in the third round.
For the past several months, Lawal has been sidelined with a knee injury that required surgery, but now he’s looking to get back into training. He told MMAWeekly.com just a couple of weeks back that he was already targeting a June return.
“I’m healing great,” Lawal said. “(I’m) looking to fight in June.”
It looks like he’ll get his wish.
As far as opponents, no one has been rumored for the June card yet, except for Lawal, but there is a lot of time still to pass between now and then. Any number of fighters could fill in the slot to face the former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion.
MMAWeekly.com will have more information on Lawal’s opponent when it becomes available.
