Mayweather responds to Rousey: 'Make $300 million in 36 minutes, then call me'

Floyd Mayweather Jr. tried to fire back at Ronda Rousey during an appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter following some sharp comments from the UFC women’s bantamweight champion after winning the ESPY for “Fighter of the Year.”

“I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once,” Rousey said. “I’d like to see you pretend to not know who I am now.”

The comments from Rousey (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) stemmed from a comment when Mayweather dismissed a question about Rousey saying, “I don’t even know who he is.”

After her post-ESPY win diss, Rousey explained that she took the pointed swipe at Mayweather – who has been convicted of violence against women on multiple occasions and accused several more – because she felt he definitely knew who she was. The UFC champ also said that she had been patiently waiting for an opportunity to take the jab.

“I know for damn sure he knew who I was,” Rousey said. “He was running against me for ‘Best Fighter’ that year and he had signed MMA fighters, so his feigned ignorance was meant to really be a snarky remark to me. …

“I don’t let those kind of things slide, but I’m also a patient girl. I’m not the kind of chick you make snarky remarks about. I waited a whole year to say something. And you know what? If I didn’t win ‘Best Fighter’ this year, I would have waited two years or three years.”

The topic of Rousey came up during Mayweather appearance to promote his next – and he says final – fight, a mismatch on paper against Andre Berto. The 48-0 boxing superstar initially attempted to be polite about the situation.

“You know, a while back I never knew who Ronda Rousey was,” Mayweather said. “So, I’m pretty sure she got upset. I want to say congratulations to Ronda Rousey and the UFC. You guys have done a tremendous job and I’ve won probably six or seven ESPYs for fighter of the year. I truly believe she deserves it. Congratulations, she deserves it.”

When ayweather was pushed to respond to the actual comments by Rousey, he resorted to his usual tactics of bringing up how much money he makes.

“I just say that I’ve yet to see any MMA fighter or other boxer make over $300 million in 36 minutes,” Mayweather said, a reference to his May win over Manny Pacquiao. “When she can do that? Call me.”
