Martins-Hernandez set for UFC on FOX Sports 1 3; Assuncao-Dillashaw on hold

lucas-martins-4.jpgThe UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 card set for September in Brazil continues to fill out with the addition of a bantamweight contest.

According to a report from Globo, Lucas Martins (13-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) will welcome UFC newcomer Ramiro Hernandez (13-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) in Belo Horizonte. UFC officials have not yet announced the new fight booking.

UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 takes place Sept. 4 at Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. It will be the UFC’s second visit to the city after first visiting for UFC 147 in 2012.

Additionally, sources with knowledge of the fight between Raphael Assuncao and T.J. Dillashaw told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that fight will not take place at UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 as previously reported. Sources said a lingering Assuncao medical issue will keep him from being ready in time for the date. The fight instead will be targeted for a later date.

Martins in May got back in the win column and picked up his first UFC victory when he knocked out Jeremy Larsen 13 seconds into the third round at UFC on FX 8 in Brazil. After starting his career 12-0 with 11 stoppages, Martins debuted in the UFC in January at UFC on FX 7, also in his native Brazil, and was stopped by Edson Barboza midway through the first round.

As MMAjunkie.com first reported in June, Martins will indeed be following through with his plan to drop not one, but two weight classes. Against Larsen in the UFC on FX 8 “Fight of the Night” winner, he fought at lightweight. But for Hernandez, he drops all the way to 135 pounds.

Hernandez, a Miletich Fighting Systems product based in Iowa, will make his UFC debut having won six of his past seven fights. He has won two in a row by decision, but hasn’t yet fought in 2013. Hernandez has nine of his 13 wins by stoppage, and he hasn’t been stopped in his four losses – which have come to Bellator MMA featherweight champion Pat Curran, “TUF 12? runner-up Michael Johnson, and Bellator vets Jared Downing and Jeremy Spoon.

With the addition to the card, the UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 lineup now includes:
