Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier found out along with the rest of the world on Friday that the upcoming Nov 3 card he was supposed to fight on was cancelled.
Needless to say at the time Cormier was none too happy to hear about the news, but with a few hours to think about things and deal with the fallout, the former Olympian sat down to speak to MMAWeekly Radio about the day’s events.
As disappointed as he was in the cancellation and the fact that the card was scrapped without telling the fighters, Cormier spoke with Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker and it helped make him understand why things happened the way that they did.
“They assured me there were reasons behind me not knowing and the rest of the guys not knowing, and they are valid reasons. I don’t know exactly what they are, but there are reasons and sometimes that just has to be,” Cormier said.
In the interview, Cormier also talks about his final fight with Strikeforce, his expectation to fight in January, and how he hopes Frank Mir is his opponent once again.
