Luke Rockhold is going to be in the UFC for the foreseeable future.
The top-ranked middleweight recently signed a new eight-fight deal with the organization, according to a report on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight.
Not only is Rockhold on board with the new deal, but UFC President Dana White informed the program that the fighter has been promised a “big fight” for his next appearance.
Rockhold recently beat Michael Bisping in the main in event at UFC Fight Night Sydney a few weeks ago. The win was his third in a row and put him near the top of the rankings and contender status.
According to the report, Rockhold will have at least one more fight before earning a title shot. Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza has been mentioned as a possible opponent, and Rockhold said before that he is open to facing the Brazilian fighter.
A Rockhold-Souza bout would be the second meeting between the two. The first was won by Rockhold by unanimous decision, a result that crowned the fighter as Strikeforce middleweight champion.
