Jorina Baars had plans to beat up Cristiane Justino and walk away with a new title. Mission accomplished.
Baars took a unanimous decision against “Cyborg” on Friday night in the muay Thai main event of Lion Fight 14. The event aired on AXS TV from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
Baars, from the Netherlands, knocked down the Brazilian several times throughout the fight with powerful kicks, and proved she could absorb many of Justino’s hardest strikes, as well.
And while it wasn’t the fight MMA fans are pining to see “Cyborg” in – that would be a bout against UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey – Baars still may have set some kind of blueprint for Justino’s future opponents.
Among the highlights early on the card, Victor Saravia upset Anthony Castrejon and Shane Oblonsky upset muay Thai legend Malaipet, who was going after his 144th career victory.
