Jose Aldo on Max Holloway Fight: ‘I Don’t See Where He Can Beat Me’

When Max “Blessed” Holloway defeated Antony Pettis in the UFC 206 main event on Dec. 10 to capture the interim featherweight title, he guaranteed himself a shot at unifying the belts. While no official announcement has been made, Holloway indicated that he wanted to face champion Jose Aldo at UFC 208 on Feb. 11 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Aldo said the fight and date is a done deal.

Looking ahead to the match-up, whenever it takes place, Aldo doesn’t see any area where Holloway has an advantage.

UFC 142: Aldo v Mendes - Press Conference“I haven’t studied his game yet, so a fight is a fight. Of course, we defend hard in there, but he tries to keep it standing. But I don’t see any problem with it because I don’t see where he can beat me: standing, on the ground, wrestling, nothing,” said Aldo during a recent media scrum in Brazil.

Aldo described Holloway as “just a normal fighter,” and questioned the quality of opponents the Hawaiian has faced during his 10-fight win streak.

“He’s just coming off a big win streak, but against guys that are not at the top. He fought Pettis now, who was fighting for the second time in the division, and I don’t know why he thinks he’s that big of a deal. To me, he’s just another normal fighter that I knew had a big chance of fighting me in the future. And it will happen,” said the 145-pound champion.
