UFC 133 doesn’t have an exact date or location outside of taking place in August, but it now has its first fight as Jorge Rivera will meet Alessio Sakara in a middleweight match-up on the card.
The UFC announced the pending bout on Tuesday.
Rivera and Sakara were originally scheduled to meet in late 2010 in Germany, but sickness wiped Sakara out at the last moment, leaving Rivera without an opponent.
Rivera instead sat out and waited for his shot at Michael Bisping, which resulted in a loss in February, while Sakara suffered a loss of his own to Chris Weidman at UFC on Versus 3 in early March.
Now the two heavy hitters will meet at UFC 133 in August with a little bit of redemption on the brain, as both try to recover from recent setbacks.
As far as UFC 133 goes, this is the first announcement the promotion has made about the event. The show will take place in August, but as of right now it’s not slated to be the show taking place in Brazil, which is scheduled for Aug. 27 and may end up being numbered UFC 134.
MMAWeekly.com will have more information on the upcoming UFC schedule when it becomes available.
