Two notable lightweights are set to clash in April at UFC 172, officials today announced.
Jim Miller (23-4 MMA, 12-3 UFC) and Bobby Green (22-5 MMA, 3-0 UFC), who are respectively ranked No. 13 and an honorable mention in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA lightweight rankings, have verbally agreed to the bout.
UFC 172 takes place April 26 at Baltimore Arena in Maryland. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Miller vs. Green will likely be part of one of the televised cards.
Miller looks for his third straight win, though sandwiched between victories over Joe Lauzon and Fabricio Camoes is a no-contest. (Miller originally suffered a submission loss to Pat Healy, who later had the win overturned due to a failed drug test for marijuana.) Miller, who’s won three “Submission of the Night” and three “Fight of the Night” bonuses during his lengthy six-year UFC run, is still looking for his elusive first UFC title shot.
He could move closer to that goal with a win over Green, who looks for his eighth straight victory. Since a 4-1 run in Strikeforce, the former KOTC champ has picked up a trio of wins in the UFC. They’ve come over increasingly tougher competition, including Jacob Volkmann (submission), James Krause (TKO) and Healy (decision).
