Jeremy Stephens Arrested; Dana White Says Bout with Yves Edwards Still On for UFC on FX 5



Just hours prior to his UFC on FX 5 collision with Yves Edwards, lightweight Jeremy Stephens was arrested in Minneapolis. However, the development will not prevent “Lil’ Heathen” from competing at tonight’s event, according to UFC President Dana White.

Sherdog.com verified that the fighter is currently being held without bail at the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility in downtown Minneapolis, though any specific charges facing Stephens have not yet been revealed. According to a report from MMAJunkie.com, Stephens was arrested Friday morning at the Marriott City Center Hotel in relation to an out-of-state felony charge. The fighter reportedly arrived at the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility at 10:44 a.m. CT.

After several reports were filed online that put Stephens’ fight status in question, White took to Twitter and ended all mystery by confirming that Stephens will indeed still compete at tonight’s event, which is headlined by a heavyweight showdown between Travis Browne and Antonio Silva.

Stephens, 26, recently lost back-to-back fights for the first time since 2009. Following a stretch during which “Lil’ Heathen” posted four wins in five outings, the Iowan dropped a split decision to former World Extreme Cagefighting titlist Anthony Pettis last October and then fell in a one-sided affair to another WEC alum in Donald Cerrone this past May at UFC on Fuel TV 3. A seven-year pro, Stephens owns 14 of his 20 career victories by knockout and holds notable wins over Marcus Davis, Rafael dos Anjos, Cole Miller and Sam Stout.
