james-head-3.jpgA welterweight bout between James Head (9-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) and Bobby Voelker (24-9 MMA, 0-1 UFC) is the latest addition to the quickly filling UFC on FOX Sports 1 2 card.

UFC officials announced the fight overnight.

UFC on FOX Sports 1 2 takes place Aug. 28. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The event’s main card airs on the soon-to-debut FOX Sports 1. Broadcast plans for the preliminary card haven’t been announced.

Head vs. Voelker likely will be part of the prelims.

Head, a former middleweight, won his first two bouts (a submission victory over Papy Abedi and a split-decision win over Brian Ebersole) after a drop down to welterweight. However, most recently, he suffered a TKO loss to rising contender Mike Pyle at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale back in December.

Head was slated to fight at UFC 159 in April, but on the day of the event, opponent Nick Catone wasn’t medically cleared to compete, and the bout was scrapped.

Voelker, meanwhile, is a former Strikeforce fighter who closed out his time in the promotion with three consecutive wins, including back-to-back knockouts of Roger Bowling. However, in his official UFC debut, the Kansas-based fighter suffered a decision loss to Patrick Cote at UFC 158.
