Invicta FC 3 Weigh-in Results; Atomweight Title Bout Set


All 14 bouts, including the atomweight (105 pounds) main event and first-ever Invicta Fighting Championships world title bout between Jessica Penne (9-1) and undefeated Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama (8-0), were made official on Friday for the Invicta FC 3: Penne vs. Sugiyama event on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, live on InvictaFC.com.

The ferocious, 29-year-old Penne weighed in at 104.5 pounds while Sugiyama, a 34-year-old champion of Japanese women’s MMA promotion JEWELS, weighed in at 103.5 pounds.

Women’s MMA pioneer Tara LaRosa (21-2) weighed in at 127.5 pounds, 1.5 pounds above the cutoff weight for her flyweight (125 pounds) match-up with Sao Paulo, Brazil’s Vanessa Porto (14-5), who weighed in at 125 pounds. Porto gained weight and re-weighed in at 127 pounds.

Tickets for the highly anticipated Invicta FC 3: Penne vs. Sugiyama event, priced from $25, are available for purchase at Memorial Hall box office, online at Ticketmaster.com and InvictaFC.com and by phone at (800) 745-3000.

The live, free-of-charge stream of the entire event on InvictaFC.com will begin at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST with the six-bout preliminary card and continue with the eight-bout main card.  Veteran MMA voice Mauro Ranallo will call the action alongside MMA superstars “King Mo” Lawal and Julie “Fireball” Kedzie.

In the co-main event, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt Shayna “The Queen of Spades” Baszler (14-7) will return to action at bantamweight (135 pounds) and take on Invicta FC 2 winner Sarah “The Monster” D’Alelio (6-2).

Undefeated sensation Cat “Alpha” Zingano (6-0) will throw down with Invicta FC 2 winner Raquel “Rocky” Pennington (3-1) at bantamweight.

Prolific strikers Kaitlin Young (7-6-1) and Leslie “The Peacemaker” Smith (3-2-1) will face off in a highly anticipated bantamweight rematch to their April 28 slugfest at the inaugural Invicta FC event that ended in a majority draw.

Another Invicta FC 2 victor, Barb “Little Warrior” Honchak (6-2) will collide with rising star and furious finisher Aisling “Ais The Bash” Daly (13-3) in a flyweight (125 pounds) contest.

Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson (9-3) will also make her first start under the Invicta FC banner against Lacey “The Ladie” Schuckman (7-5) in an atomweight scrap.

Road warrior Danielle “The Honey Badger” West (4-3-1) will meet hard-hitting Julia “The Jewel” Budd (3-2) at featherweight (145 pounds) in the first main card bout.

Doors at Memorial Hall open for Invicta FC 3: Penne vs. Sugiyama at 5 p.m. CST and the first preliminary bout begins at 6 p.m.
