ABU DHABI – A middleweight bout between Andrew Craig (9-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and Chris Camozzi (19-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC) has been called off just a few hours before the athletes were set to hit the scales for UFC Fight Night 39.
MMAjunkie has learned Craig is suffering from tonsillitis and was ruled out of the fight.
According to UFC officials, both fighters will still be paid their guaranteed “show” purses despite the fight being called off before the official weigh-ins.
“UFC Fight Night 39: Nogueira vs. Nelson” takes place Friday at Abu Dhabi’s du Arena. The full card streams on UFC Fight Pass.
Craig was looking to fight for the first time since an October 2013 loss to Luke Barnatt. The 28-year-old Texan earned a “Fight of the Night” bonus for his effort in that contest.
It’s currently unknown when he’ll fight again.
Meanwhile, Camozzi was hoping to rebound from consecutive losses to Lorenz Larkin and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. Instead, he’ll now be forced to become a spectator at Friday’s event.
With the late change, UFC Fight Night 39 now includes:
