Headliner Zwicker, Prospect Peoples off Strikeforce Challengers 19

Headliner Virgil Zwicker has suffered an unspecified injury and will be unable to compete at Strikeforce Challengers 19, the promotion announced Tuesday.

In the same announcement, Strikeforce revealed that undercard competitor Jerron Peoples has also fallen to injury and has withdrawn from the Sept. 23 event, which emanates from the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

Zwicker (Pictured) was slated to face light heavyweight kung fu stylist Lorenz Larkin in the main event, while Peoples had drawn American Top Team export Joe Ray in his preliminary welterweight bout. Replacements for the injured competitors are expected to be announced shortly.

Unrelated to the aforementioned injuries, the card will feature some notable names, as Ryan Couture, Lavar Johnson and Jason High meet Maka Watson, Shawn Jordan and Todd Moore, respectively.

Zwicker has split his last four bouts. The 29-year-old made his Strikeforce debut as a heavyweight against the much larger Johnson this past October, falling by second-round knockout. However, “Rezdog” rebounded from the defeat in April, knocking out Brett Albee less than two minutes into their clash at Strikeforce “Diaz vs. Daley.”

Peoples recently tasted defeat for the first time in his Strikeforce debut, as the Californian suffered a technical knockout at the hands of Eduardo Pamplona at Challengers 16 on June 24. Prior to that loss, the welterweight had begun his career a perfect 4-0, knocking out all four of his conquered foes.
