Gold Coast Selected as Location for TUF: The Smashes Finale at UFC on FX 6

With the premiere episode of TUF: Australia vs. UK “The Smashes” right around the corner, the UFC on Monday announced that the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia, would host UFC on FX 6, which features TUF: The Smashes finale on Dec. 15 (Dec. 14 in the U.S.).

The main event will be a fight between the TUF: The Smashes coaches. Australia’s George Sotiropoulos and the U.K.’s Ross Pearson will meet in the lightweight division. The main card also features the fight between adopted Aussie Hector Lombard and submission specialist Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares, as well as the TUF lightweight and welterweight finals.

Also confirmed for the card is a bout between light heavyweights Ednaldo Oliveira and Krzysztof Soszynski, who came out of a temporary retirement for the fight.

The venue announcement does go back on the initial decision in January for the Brisbane Entertainment Centre to host the show. The venue on the Gold Coast can hold up to 6,000 spectators, with ticket details to be released soon.

TUF: Australia vs. UK “The Smashes” premieres Wednesday, Sept. 19, on FX in Australia at 7:30 p.m. AEST. It will also be aired on ESPN UK  at midnight (local time) on Wednesday, Sept. 19 in the U.K.
