Family is the Motivation for Dylan Andrews Ahead of UFC Fight Night 33 (Video)

The Ultimate Fighter 17 alum Dylan Andrews talks about the struggles he had growing up in a dysfunctional family ahead of his fight with Clint Hester at UFC Fight Night 33 in Brisbane, Australia, on Saturday, Dec. 7 (Dec. 6 in North America).

“I have a belief now that it doesn’t matter where you come from that you can achieve great things,” Andrews said. “My mum was a drug addict and my dad drunk a lot and I grew up in that environment.

“The drive and motivation I get is when I look back at my kids. That’s what drives me, that’s what pushes me to my session and my next session til I collapse.”

Now 2-0 in the UFC, Andrews overcame the odds to overcome Papy Abedi in his last fight after tearing his shoulder in round one before scoring the knockout in the final round. Now he must fight former Team Jones teammate and good friend Clint Hester, but Andrews says they’ll be friends before the fight and friends again after.

“My previous fight with Papy Abedi, he tossed me or something and I heard my shoulder crack,” he said. “It was a grade 2 tear on my AC. It was pretty bad as I had my head and shoulder on the canvas at the same time. I went out for a little bit.

“The guy I’m fighting next is Clint Hester – good friend, awesome person, awesome athlete  and can’t say enough good things about him. It is what it is, it is professional what we are doing and before this we were friends and afterwards we will be friends. He poses a lot of problems in a lot of areas.”
