Fabricio Lands Longterm, Seven-Figure UFC Contract

Although he still hasn’t completed his current contract and has a fight lined up, that didn’t stop the UFC from working a new deal with heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum.

Werdum, according to a report on UFC Tonight, worked out a new deal with the UFC in the lead-up to his UFC 196 bout with Cain Velasquez. Although specific details were scarce, Werdum apparently inked a deal for eight fights worth seven figures.

Fabricio WerdumThe champ hasn’t lost a bout since dropping a unanimous decision to Alistair Overeem in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix more than four years ago. That is his only loss in his last 10 fights, which includes a victory over Fedor Emelianenko, winning the UFC interim heavyweight title in a bout with Mark Hunt, and a victory over Velasquez to unify the UFC heavyweight belts.

Werdum has won six consecutive fights.

At 38 years of age, the eight-fight deal all but ensures that Werdum will complete his career in the Octagon. He is slated to put his belt on the line in an immediate rematch with Velasquez on Feb. 6 at UFC 196 in Las Vegas.

Overeem faces Junior dos Santos in the UFC on FOX 17 co-main event. It is the final fight on his contract, and, unlike Werdum, Overeem is reportedly going to explore the free agent market following the bout.
