MMA DIRT’s Darren Barcomb tracked down bantamweight sensation Marlon Moraes, who is coming off of a dominant unanimous decision victory over a very game Brendan Hempleman on August 10th at World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 5 in Ontario, California.
At only 25 years old, the Brazilian Moraes has continued to climb in the rankings and has improved his record to 11-4-1, winning his last five fights in impressive fashion. With WSOF victories over Hempleman, Tyson Nam, and former WEC champ Miguel Torres, Moraes is primed for a run at the promotion’s bantamweight title.
Read below as Moraes discusses his recent victory and what his bright future holds….
Barcomb: You looked great at WSOF 4. Tell me about that fight. How do you rate your performance?
Moraes: “I did my game plan but the kid (Hempleman) was hard to finish, and when I saw an opportunity to finish I started to feel my foot! (which was broken in the 2nd round). I'm happy with my performance, it was a great fight. I'm learning every day and hopefully keep getting better and better!”
Barcomb: You dominated each round, but Brandon Hempleman stuck it out until the end. How tough is he as an opponent?
Moraes: He is tough as an opponent, I was getting him with kicks punches and he was there! But I kept my focuses on the fight and what we trained to do. Kid is smart, trying to bring me to his game.”
Barcomb: That makes three straight WSOF victories and 5 straight overall victories. What’s next for you? Any ideas what the WSOF has in mind for you?
Moraes: “I'm recovering now, training but not hard. I'm not sure what's next for me. Hopefully they will call me and ask me to fight soon. I'm doing what I love to do, as soon as they call me I want to be ready.”
