Diego Brandao vs. Will Chope targeted for UFC Fight Night 38 in Brazil

diego-brandao-6.jpgThe UFC’s March card in Brazil continues to fill up with the addition of a featherweight fight to the show.

A bout between “TUF” winner Diego Brandao (18-9 MMA, 4-2 UFC) and Will Chope (19-6 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is being targeted for UFC Fight Night 38.

A source with knowledge of the planned fight on Tuesday confirmed the booking to to MMAjunkie. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the fight. The UFC has not yet made the matchup official.

UFC Fight Night 38 takes place March 23 at Ginasio Nelio Dias in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The main card will air on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Brandao will be looking to get back in the win column after a three-fight streak was snapped at the hands of Dustin Poirier at UFC 168 in December. In that fight, Poirier knocked the Brazilian out with just six seconds left in the first round. Brandao, who won Season 14 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” had beaten Joey Gambino, Pablo Garza and Daniel Pineda in succession after a loss to Darren Elkins in May 2012.

Chope, a Californian, made his UFC debut a month ago in Singapore, but was stopped by Max Holloway in the second round of UFC Fight Night 34. That snapped a 14-fight winning streak for the lanky Chope, who at 6-foot-4 will have a nine-inch height advantage over Brandao.

With the addition, the latest UFC Fight Night 38 card now includes:

  • Dan Henderson vs. Mauricio Rua
  • C.B. Dollaway vs. Cezar Ferreira
  • Norman Parke vs. Leonardo Santos
  • Fabio Maldonado vs. Gian Villante
  • Rony Jason vs. Steven Siler
  • Mairbek Taisumov vs. Gleison Tibau
  • Ronny Markes vs. Thiago “Marreta” Santos
  • Jussier Formiga vs. Scott Jorgensen
  • Thiago Perpetuo vs. Kenny Robertson
  • Diego Brandao vs. Will Chope*
