A featherweight matchup between Daniel Pineda (18-10 MMA, 3-3 UFC) and Robert Whiteford (10-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) is the latest addition to the UFC’s return to the Lone Star State.
UFC officials recently announced the new booking, which takes place at UFC 171 on March 15 at Dallas’ American Airlines Center. The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims that air on FOX Sports 1 and stream on UFC Fight Pass.
The evening’s now-13-fight bout order has yet to be officially announced, but Pineda vs. Whiteford is expected to take place somewhere on the evening’s preliminary lineup.
“The Pit” Pineda may very well find himself in a must-win situation after an August loss to Diego Brandao. After earning victories over Mackens Semerzier and Pat Schilling in his first two octagon appearances, Pineda has fallen to 1-3 in his past four outings, though the one victory did include a “Submission of the Night” bonus.
Meanwhile, 30-year-old Scottish fighter Whiteford looks to rebound from a disappointing loss in his octagon debut to Jim Hettes. The result snapped a 10-fight winning streak Whiteford had built competing on the European regional scene.
