Daniel Cormier will make his light-heavyweight debut against Rashad Evans at UFC 170, according to a report on the UFC Fight Night 33 pre-show on Friday.
The 205-pound scrap will be a five-round main event for the Las Vegas card, which takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Feb. 22.
As reported by MMAWeekly.com earlier this week, Cormier (13-0) signed a new eight-fight deal with the UFC. Discussions regarding his next opponent included Evans, but a deal to make the fight happen was not done at the time. After today’s news, however, the fight is officially a go.
A former UFC light heavyweight champion, Evans (19-3-1) appears to be back in his winning ways with two consecutive wins in the Octagon. In his last outing, Evans bombarded his Fox Sports co-worker in Chael Sonnen, winning with a first-round TKO at UFC 167 last month.
The winner of the Evans-Cormier fight will be in heavy consideration for a shot at Jon Jones’ 205-pound title behind current top contenders Glover Teixeira and Alexander Gustafsson.
