“There’s no doubt about it, the commission here did a horrible job with this fight,” said UFC president Dana White during the UFC on Fuel TV 9 post-fight show, criticizing the Swedish MMA Federation’s handling of the cut over the eye of scheduled main eventer Alexander Gustafsson. The SMMAF nixed Gustafsson’s participation on Tuesday, just four days prior to the event.
“I don’t want to smash this commission here,” he continued, “but the reality is they’re very inexperienced. Not only are they inexperienced, the doctor is inexperienced in fights. This isn’t Las Vegas or New Jersey or California where tons of fights happen all the time.
“They did a great job the first time we came here, so hopefully they’ll get back on the wagon.”
White later mentioned at the post-fight press conference that the SMMAF’s handling of the situation wouldn’t preclude the promotion from returning to Sweden.
