Dana White, Lorenzo Fertitta visit ex-UFC champ Anderson Silva, pose for picture

anderson-silva-lorenzo-fertitta-dana-whiteRecovering former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva got a visit today from UFC executives Lorenzo Fertitta and Dana White, who reportedly were encouraged by his progress.

Silva’s co-manager, Jorge Guimaraes, today took a picture of the meeting at Silva’s house in Redondo Beach, Calif., where he’s been since he broke his leg in a failed bid to retake the title at this past month’s UFC 168.

“They’re happy with what they saw,” wrote Guimaraes, who reps “The Spider” with Ed Soares.

Earlier this week, the managers both expressed confidence that Silva will return to the cage, and they even mused about a superfight with former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, who vacated the belt for a personal sabbatical.

Today, the Toronto Sun reported that Silva told White he wants to fight again. White said he would broach the issue in six or seven months.

Guimares said Silva (33-6 MMA, 16-2 UFC) begins physical therapy next week, and he will this week get his stitches removed from a surgery he had the night he broke his leg.

Following the grisly injury, White said he wouldn’t pressure Silva on his next move. Guimares and Soares gave the impression that the fighter wants to fight again so as to not finish his career on a sour note.

“I feel that positive vibe on him, and that’s what makes me believe he’s going to come back even stronger,” Guimares said.

Silva’s back-to-back losses are the first time he’s suffered concurrent setbacks in a 17-year career in MMA. Prior to his first loss to Weidman, which came via knockout at UFC 162, he had won 16 straight in the octagon and defended his middleweight title 10 times.
