Dana White's UFN 29 vlog: Barnett and Mir's remarkably candid post-UFC 164 chat

UFC President Dana White’s latest video blog, which was released in conjunction with tonight’s UFC Fight Night 29 event, takes us behind the scenes of August’s UFC 164 event. It shows a remarkably frank post-fight discussion between co-headliners Josh Barnett and Frank Mir.

The biggest storyline from the event was Anthony Pettis fighting in his hometown of Milwaukee and defeating Benson Henderson for the UFC lightweight title.

But the real drama came in the Aug. 31 event’s co-headliner, where Barnett scored a TKO victory over Mir. Check out the cageside confusion as trainers and fans complain of an early stoppage, but also check out the post-chat between the two heavyweight legends. When Mir thanks Barnett for the fight, Barnett expresses his own gratitude.

“Thanks for actually asking for it,” he says. “I figure you’re the only person actually in history who was like, ‘I actually want to fight him.’”

“Hey, you gotta fight the best, right?” Mir retorts.

Other vlog highlights include:

  • White custom-building his own motorcycle (1:00 mark)
  • White hopping on Fred Durst’s custom bike (1:45)
  • Raw and emotional backstage footage of post-fight competitors (2:00)
  • Ben Rothwell celebrating a win that was later overturned due to a failed drug test (3:55)
  • Clay Guida post-fight, which is the only time you’ll see him sitting still (4:10)
  • The cageside and backstage drama as trainers and fans complain of an early stoppage in Barnett vs. Mir (4:40)
  • A raucous Milwaukee crowd as hometown hero Pettis upsets Henderson for the title (6:10)
  • White praising Pettis backstage after the fight and telling him his life is about to change (6:55)
