Cris Cyborg Doesn't Believe Miesha Tate Will Actually Retire | MMAWeekly.com

After losing to Raquel Pennington at UFC 205 on Nov. 12, former bantamweight champion Miesha Tate announced that she was retiring from fighting to a stunned crowd at Madison square Garden.

miesha-tate-ufc205-scrum-750“I’m announcing my retirement, you guys. I love you all so much. I’ve been doing this for over a decade. Thank you so much for being here. I love this sport forever. It’s not my time anymore. It’s the future’s time,” said Tate following the loss.

Despite Tate’s announcement, Cris “Cyborg” Justino doesn’t think “Cupcake” will actually walk away from the sport. She believes Tate was speaking out of emotion.

“I don’t think she is going to retire,” Cyborg told Submission Radio. “I think she just after she lost the fight she was emotional. It was the second fight in a row that she lost.”

It wouldn’t be the first time a fighter announced their retirement following a loss only to return to the Octagon later.  Randy Couture and B.J. Penn are recent examples.  Cyborg believes Tate just needs time off.

“I think she needs a break, like a break. I think she was mentally in this fight and I think she emotionally said she was going to retire. I don’t think she’s going to retire,” she said.

“She’s a young girl. She’s done a lot of things for the sport. I really think she just got emotional after the fight.”
