Chris Holdsworth and Jessica Rakoczy are MMAjunkie.com's 'TUF 18' bloggers

They’ll pen weekly blogs that take readers behind the scenes of the reality show. They’ll appear each Thursday on the site.

The latest season of the UFC’s long-running reality series debuted Wednesday on FOX Sports 1, and with UFC champ Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate as coaches, it’s the first to feature a coed cast.

On the season premiere, 32 bantamweight fighters went through an elimination round of fights, and the 16 winners earned a spot on this season’s cast. The men and women were drafted into two coed teams and now compete in single-elimination tournaments.

Holdsworth was a second-round pick for Team Tate, and Rakoczy was Team Rousey’s fourth pick.

Holdsworth earned his spot on the cast after an arm-triangle-choke victory over Louis Fisette. The 25-year-old, who entered the show with a 4-0 pro record, has posted submissions in all of his victories. In fact, after working his way up the belt system (with instructors Royce, Rener, Ryron and Rorion Gracie), he received his Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt from Marc Laimon when he was just 21 years old.

According to a UFC-provided bio, the California-based Team Alpha Make fighter has a father who was a martial artist and Vietnam vet, a mother who is breast cancer survivor and a grandfather who was a Golden Gloves boxer. After his brother, a kickboxer, was shot and killed, 8-year-old Holdsworth opted to follow in his footsteps and devote himself to martial arts.

Rakoczy, meanwhile, used an omoplata to submit Revelina Berto in her elimination-round fight. The 36-year-old made her pro boxing debut in 2000 and has posted a 31-3 record with 11 knockouts while winning numerous titles.

Although she’s boxed as recently as January, Rakoczy launched her pro MMA career in 2009. The Canadian and current Las Vegas-based fighter suffered losses in her first three pro bouts (though she faced notables Michelle Ould, Zoila Frausto Gurgel and Felice Herrig). Rakoczy, who lost her single mother when she was just 16, is now 1-3 with one no-contest following a September 2012 knockout win over Kristen Gatz.

The Canadian is currently based out of Las Vegas, where she works with trainers Dewey Cooper and Robert Drysdale.
