Cage Warriors lightweight champion Stevie Ray is the latest promotional rep to make the jump to the UFC.
As the U.K. promotion faces an uncertain future, Ray (16-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is the latest Cage Warriors vet to sign with the UFC. Officials today announced he’s replaced injured lightweight Jason Saggo (10-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and now fights Marcin Bandel (13-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC).
The nature of Saggo’s injury wasn’t disclosed.
UFC Fight Night 64 takes place April 11 at Krakow Arena in Krakow, Poland. The entire event streams on UFC Fight Pass.
Ray, a 25-year-old Scottish fighter, most recently fought in November and defended his title with a submission victory over Curt Warburton at Cage Warriors 73. In a bout prior, he earned a narrow split-decision win over Warburton. Ray is now 4-1 over his past five bouts. In 16 career wins, he’s earned four knockouts and eight submissions.
Bandel, a 25-year-old Polish, was riding a 12-fight winning streak (with all of the wins coming via first-round submission) before a UFC-debut loss to Mairbek Taisumov in October.
