CM Punk Doesn't Want to End His UFC Journey | MMAWeekly.com

CM Punk UFC 203 post interview

CM Punk is familiar with bright lights and raucous crowds. As WWE champion, he performed on wrestling’s biggest stage and was one of the organization’s biggest stars.

But as he competed in his UFC debut on Saturday at UFC 203, it was quickly clear that Punk was overmatched by Mickey Gall as the the 24-year-old fighter mauled the former pro wrestler. Even so, Punk wouldn’t change a thing about the giant leap he took from the WWE to the UFC.

The process was magical. I’m just disappointed,” he said at the UFC 203 post-fight press conference. “I’m beating myself up way more than I got beat up. I’m supremely disappointed, but aside from the outcome, I wouldn’t change anything for the world. Just being out there under the lights, it was the most fun I’ve ever had.”

What Punk called “fun” was a first-round finish by Gall that saw him sink a rear-naked choke almost halfway through the opening frame. Despite the outcome, the experience apparently left Punk wanting more, and he doesn’t want to end up being cut by the UFC after a loss in his debut.

Just like riding a bike, Punk said he fell, but wants to get right back up and ride again.

I don’t know what happens from here on out. What if I get cut? I don’t know. I think that’s a possibility,” he said. “Do I want that to happen? No, but who’s to say where I go from here? I don’t know. I definitely want to keep going.

“I just fell off a bike. I’m not just going to shelve it and leave it in the middle of the street. I gotta get back on to ride.
