Brandon Vera defends heavyweight title vs. Hideki Sekine at 'ONE Championship: Age of Domination'

Brandon Vera will put his heavyweight title on the line for the first time at “ONE Championship: Age of Domination” in December.

The promotion announced the new card today, which will take place Dec. 2 at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Manila, Philippines. The event will stream as an online pay-per-view in North America. Vera (14-7) will meet unbeaten challenger Hideki Sekine (7-0) in the main event.

“Filipinos are some of the most passionate people in the world, and they really love their sports,” ONE Championship CEO Victor Cui stated. “So we have prepared a stacked card featuring a solid group of local fighters mixed in with some of the best international talents on our roster. ONE heavyweight world champion Brandon Vera is set to return to the cage, and you all know that means be ready for an amazing night of action.”

Vera, a Filipino-American UFC veteran, won the heavyweight title this past December with a 26-second knockout win over Paul Cheng. That was his second fight in the promotion after being released by the UFC after 16 fights in the promotion. His ONE Championship debut a year prior was a TKO win over Igor Subora in the first round. Since his release by the UFC after an August 2013 loss to Ben Rothwell, he has fought just once a year.

Japan’s Sekine will have gone nearly two years without a fight when he steps in against Vera and has just seven fights in seven years as a prol But six of those seven have been stoppages with an equal mix of submissions and knockouts. He’ll be making his ONE Champinoship debut.
