Boxing News: Adrien Broner to Face Emmanuel Taylor on Sept. 6 in Cincinnati

For the first time since defeating Carlos Molina and winning the vacant WBA International Super Lightweight title in May, Adrien Broner will return to the ring to meet Emmanuel Taylor.

The 12-round junior welterweight bout will serve as the main event of a Showtime card on Saturday, Sept. 6. It marks “The Problem’s” first fight in his hometown of Cincinnati in more than two years, as the card will emanate from U.S. Bank Arena.

Broner will look to put more distance between himself and the lone loss of his career, a unanimous decision setback at the hands of Marcos Maidana last year. At only 25 years old, Broner holds a career mark of 28-1, with 22 wins coming by way of knockout. Along the way he has won world titles at 130, 135 and 147 pounds, defeating the likes of Paulie Malignaggi, Daniel “Ponce” de Leon and Gavin Rees.

“It’s always good to fight at home,” said Broner in a press release. “It’s overdue. I will not disappoint my Cincinnati fans. I’ll make sure to put up a good show for them. Taylor is a young, talented fighter, but he’s not ready to solve this ‘Problem.’”

The hope of Golden Boy Promotions is for Broner to someday potentially work his way into a slot alongside boxing’s biggest draw, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Broner represents the most significant test of Taylor’s professional career. The 23-year-old Edgewood Arsenal, Md., native enters the bout with a career record of 18-2. “The Tranzformer” was just in action two weeks ago, defeating Karim Mayfield via unanimous decision.

“This is the biggest fight of my career, and I won’t let it get away from me,” Taylor said, “All of those hours in the gym were for a moment like this, and I can’t wait to show the world what I can do in the ring.”
