Bocek-Prazeres, Clements-Thompson added to September's UFC 165 in Toronto

stephen-thompson-4.jpgThe UFC’s September return to Toronto continues to fill out with a new pair of fights featuring two Canadians added to the bill.

Mark Bocek (11-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC) will meet Michel Prazeres (16-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in a lightweight bout, and Chris Clements (11-4 MMA, 1-0 UFC) takes on Stephen Thopmson (7-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at welterweight.

Joe Ferraro of Canada’s Sportsnet first brought word of the two new fight bookings, which subsequently were confirmed by UFC officials.

UFC 165 takes place Sept. 21 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The main card airs on pay-per-view and features a light-heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and challenger Alexander Gustafsson.Prelims will air on FOX Sports 1 and stream on Facebook.

Bocek had a two-fight win streak snapped this past November when he dropped a unanimous decision to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 154 in Montreal. Prior to that, the Toronto native had back-to-back wins over Nik Lentz at UFC 140 and John Alessio at UFC 145. In his six years in the UFC, Bocek has fought in his native country six times with a 3-3 split record.

Prazeres made his UFC debut in May at UFC on FX 8 in his native Brazil, dropping a unanimous decision to Paulo Thiago at welterweight. That fight was the first loss of his pro career after a 16-0 start with eight submissions. He’ll look to get back on the winning track with a drop to lightweight.

Ontario native Clements will fight for the first time in 14 months when he meets Thompson. At UFC 149 nearly a year ago in Calgary, he was submitted by Matthew Riddle in the third round. But that loss was overturned to a no-contest when Riddle tested positive for marijuana. Clements made his promotional debut at UFC 145 with a split-decision win over Keith Wisniewski to run his win streak to five fights.

“Wonderboy” Thompson in May got back in the win column with a unanimous decision victory over Strikeforce veteran Nah-Shon Burrell in Las Vegas. In April 2012, Thompson, an elite-level kickboxer, lost for the first time in his pro career when Matt Brown took a decision from him at UFC 145. Injuries shelved him till the Burrell fight.
